What excludes you from donating blood
Blood and bleeding diseases or issues will often disqualify you from donating blood. If you have sickle cell trait, it is still acceptable for you to donate blood.

Blood Donations & Autoimmune Diseases
Patients with most autoimmune diseases cannot donate blood because of so many unknown factors of these diseases. There is no evidence for danger in transfusing blood, but there is no evidence or experience to support its safety. In many cases deferral from donating blood is to protect the donor from complications.

Blood Donations with Positive HIV
Individuals who have ever tested positive for HIV should not donate blood. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would like to remind the public that individuals who have ever tested positive for HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) should not donate blood, because of the potential risk of transmitting HIV to others.

Information About Medications
Most medications will not disqualify you from being able to donate blood, but may require a waiting period after your final dose.
